Sharing information about personal achievements, screenshots or videos and staying in touch with friends are the latest trends in gaming. Certain games provide excellent support for socializing with other gamers, while others fail to provide even the most basic means of communication. Xfire provides everything you need to interact with your friends and to share your screenshots or recordings. It allows you to chat with your friends, in or outside the game, organize screenshots and videos and much more.

The software is free and it can be installed quite fast. Instead of recommending useless settings to your web browser, the setup wizard will offer to install an Xfire toolbar on Internet Explorer. You don't have to meet any special requirements in order to run Xfire, but you have to create an online account.

The user interface has a modern design and it is very easy to understand. It is divided into multiple sections, in which you can add friends, chat rooms, servers, files, screenshots and video recordings. You can expand the interface, on the right side, to reveal your installed games or view information about a selected friend, servers and so on.

The best part is that Xfire automatically detects your installed games and it allows you to run them from its interface. It scans for games when it launches, but you can perform a scan yourself, by accessing the appropriate section, in the general settings menu. If the application fails to detect one of your games, you can add it manually to the database, after the scan is complete. Besides a list of installed games, you will find a second list, with games that are not installed. This is where you will notice that Xfire supports a vast range of games. It is compatible with over 3000 titles and you just need to select one and hit an Apply button.

It is also possible to voice chat with your friends while playing a game and to broadcast your gameplay. If you chat with your friends the traditional way, outside the game, you will see what games they are playing. If the game is installed on your computer, you may click its title to launch it. Alternatively, you may click an option, located on the chat window, to join his game.

Pros

The application places many possibilities at your disposal. Besides chatting with friends and seeing what they are playing, you can also broadcast your gameplay, record it or take screenshots. Recordings, screenshots and other items are neatly organized in separate sections. Xfire is capable of detecting your installed games and it allows you to run them from its interface.

Cons

If you want to add games manually, you have to look for specific executables. While using Xfire, you will stay connected with your friends at all times, without leaving your game.
